Existing Elements

Existing Elements to Retain and Opportunities
- Retain elements in the Mall that the public love: “The Pigs”, “The Balls”, “Girl on Slide”
- Draw attention to existing public art that may be overlooked (eg: the former David Jones building)
- Encourage the insertion of more locally produced public art throughout the entire Rundle Mall Precinct
- Retain Rundle Mall’s prioritisation to pedestrians over vehicles
- Retain open air nature of Rundle Mall as this is a key point of difference to competing regional centres
- Draw attention to, and enhance, buildings that contribute to the character of the public realm (Beehive Corner, Adelaide / Regent Arcades, etc.)
- Create exciting and defining entry thresholds to provide a sense of arrival
- Provide outdoor dining opportunities at edges (ground and above) to create welcoming and active entries
- Activate laneways to better connect Rundle Mall with adjoining precincts
- Integrate lighting with signage, bins, bicycle racks and other elements to reduce clutter
